This is a restricted access property in the Cuyamaca Mountains, never previously visited by us, owned by the San Diego River Park Foundation. There are a series of ponds,
grassy areas, and oak/pine habitats with birds characteristic of all of those habitats. We will walk a moderately easy trail covering about 2.4 miles, followed by an opportunity to
lunch under pines and oaks. A scouting trip in September produced 39 species. Dress for the possibility of variable weather. Bring hats, sunscreen, lunch, and water. Porta Potty is
available. Capped at 12 participants.
Directions: From San Diego go east on Highway 8 or 52 to Highway 67, and go north toward Ramona. Continue directly through Ramona as it links with 78 east toward Julian.
One mile before getting into Julian, turn right on Pine Hills Rd., and right again on Eagle Peak Rd. It becomes a very well graded dirt/gravel road. The main gate and entrance or
Eagle Peak Ranch is on the right side of the road just after mile marker 3. If you get to marker 4, you’ve gone too far. The gate should be unlocked and open by 8:30 AM.
