Summary

Want to help get rid of those pesky tumbleweeds that are more and more common in our dog park?

Description

Do you take your dog to the Fiesta Island dog park and want to help get rid of those pesky tumbleweeds? We are partnering with Fiesta Island Dog Owners for the 3rd year in a row in an effort to bring these invasive plants under control on Sunday, January 19th!

Join us on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 9 AM and our FIDO partners to make this 90 acre park more usable and enjoyable for everyone - dogs, native wildlife and people.

For this event, wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toed shoes (and layered clothing -- it may be chilly initially), and bring a reusable water bottle. We'll work from 9 AM to 1 PM -- come when you can, stay as long as you like. We'll provide gloves, water and snacks, or bring your own. No power tools; we will be pulling or digging up the tumbleweeds and depositing them in a nearby dumpster.

We'll be working to the east of the fenced California Least Tern Stony Point nesting preserve, which is in the southwestern part of the dog park. Look for Bird Alliance signage, truck and table on the day of the event.

Please note that the nearest available restrooms are portable potties near the entrances of the dog park.

If you miss registration by Saturday, January 18th at 3 PM - no problem, you are welcome to come and check in upon arrival.

Detailed Directions to Dog Park Meeting Location:

Fiesta Island Dog Park in Mission Bay, San Diego (32°46'21.0"N 117°13'35.8"W)

Park at the Fiesta Island Dog Park (32°46'38.8"N 117°13'23.6"W)

  • Drive onto Fiesta Island. Keep left at the fork. You’ll cut across a bit of the island, and then emerge on the other side where you will be forced to turn left.
  • After turning left, look for a parking lot next to the Fiesta Island Dog Park on your right. Park there (this is outside of the entrance to the dog park). If you end up at the Fiesta Island Youth Camp, you are in the wrong place and will need to continue around the island until you approach the dog park.
  • Once parked, walk through the gates into the dog park. Keep the water on your right hand side and walk all the way to the end of the dog park. It will be about a 5-10 min walk.
  • You will come to a chain link buffer fence nearing the nesting preserve This is where we will meet and check-in.
