Description

Walker Preserve
Leaders: Martha Wild
The Walker Preserve Nature Trail is a finished portion of the San Diego River Foundation project, which is developing a series of interconnected trails that will follow the San Diego River from the coast to the mountains. We will start at Magnolia Avenue, where there is on-street parking just north of the trail entrance, and head east along hard-packed and well-managed dirt trails through this lovely native riparian corridor. Some vantage points provide views of the water and associated waterfowl, and the laurel sumac, toyon, and other native plants are alive with sparrows, towhees, thrashers, thrushes, warblers, and woodpeckers. Come and join us for a 3 hour easy walk of about 2 miles total along this delightful trail.

Directions to the Magnolia Ave entrance of Walker Preserve Nature Trail:

From the South, West, or Northwest:

You can take 52 East, or 94 East to 125 North to 52 East. Once you are on 52 East, Take the Magnolia Ave exit (18A) and turn left onto Magnolia Ave (you will be heading north). After 1.3 miles, just after you cross the San Diego River, Walker Preserve will be on the right. There is substantial parking along Magnolia just to the north of the entrance.

If you take 8 East, when you get to El Cajon, merge onto 67 North. Then take Exit 2 and turn left onto Prospect Ave, and 0.1 mile, turn right onto Magnolia Ave and continue as above.

From the Northeast:

If you are coming down on 67 South, take Exit 3 onto Woodside Ave. After about half a mile, turn right onto Magnolia Ave and continue 0.8 miles to Walker Preserve. There is a portapotty at the entrance to the Preserve.
