Help the California Least Tern

You may have joined San Diego Bird Alliance on many occassions restoring nesting habitat for the California Least Tern, a federally endangered migratory seabird. 

Now, we present the opportunity to become a part of TERNWATCHERS, a volunteer program dedicated to monitoring predators and safeguarding the nesting areas of the endangered California Least Tern. Your contribution will support the nesting success by vigilantly watching over nests and recording disturbances observed in Mission Bay. The program runs from April to September offering flexible hours to fit your schedule.

Register for the two-part training now taking place on April 24th and April 25th.

  • Thursday, April 24th from 6-7 PM, we'll meet via Zoom to over the program in detail
  • Friday, April 25th from 6-7 PM, we'll meet at Mariner's Point to go through a mock survey together navigating Survey123

After turning onto Mariner’s Way, turn left to continue on Mariner's Way.
Drive until the road begins to curve around, at which point you will reach a metal swinging gate.
You may park here or drive the rest of the way down the hard packed sand until you reach
the chain-link fence.
