Description

Saturday, May 10 !
San Diego Bird Alliance presents another Queer Hike! heart

May Leaders: Braden Artzer and Annie Gorbonosov

These hikes are a safe space for all LGBTQ+IA and all allies.  Join us this month for a challenging hike that is for all people who seek a non-judgemental community.

Our May hike will be at our very own Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary! Join us as we explore a hidden gem of San Diego and meet other likeminded birders and hikers along the way. The full circuit hike at SWS is no joke: up to 4 miles of trail and 500 feet of elevation gain, including switchbacks and some rocky terrain. Shade along the trail is plentiful at some points, but limited in others. Put on your good boots, find your best walking stick, and ready your water bottle.

Along the trail you can enjoy plenty of beautiful coastal chapparal, home to the California Scrub Jay, California Thrasher, and the Spotted Towhee, among many other birds and a swath of wildlife. The animals are attracted to the native plants like sagebrush and buckwheat, which are accompanied by mosses, lichens, and mushrooms which altogether create fantastic, beautiful pathways to lose yourself in. Discover one of the country's most critically endangered ecosystems, and why San Diego Bird Alliance has worked so hard to protect it.

Registration Required. Maximum capacity 25 attendees. While registration for the trip is free, making a donation helps more leaders to offer unique trips. Please donate!
