Birding Outings: Agua Dulce Creek

A repeat of last months very successful outing.
 
Step into the crisp mountain air with us at approximately 6,000 ft as we delve into the forested habitat of Agua Dulce Creek. With towering oaks and pines, sun-dappled meadows, and a lush riparian corridor, this will be a serene ramble through the woods as we are met with the beginnings of migration of many species through San Diego.

As we meander through the forest, listen for the whistled "Quick, three beers!" of the Olive-sided Flycatcher, perched high on a snag as it watches for passing insects. The rhythmic "quark" of Mountain Quails may tease us from
the underbrush, with these secretive birds more often heard than seen. Other species we may encounter are Band-tailed Pigeons, Western Bluebirds, Brown Creepers, Mountain Chickadees, Pygmy Nuthatches, Hairy Woodpeckers, Steller's Jays, and Hammond's Flycatchers. As always, please dress for possible changes in the weather and bring water, hats, and sunscreen.
Participation is capped at 12.

NOTE: A National Forest Adventure Pass ($5/day, or $30/yr. – available at many sports stores e.g. Big 5, REI stores), or a National Parks Pass is required for parking at this trailhead.

Directions: Take I-8 east to Route S1 (Sunrise Highway).  Go north about 8 miles, and turn left onto Wooded Hill Rd., opposite Morris Ranch Rd.  Proceed to the parking area at the end of the road on the right.  Restrooms at the trailhead. Allow just over 1 hour travel time from San Diego.
