Hanson Pond Bird Outing

Hanson pond is a unique property located along the San Diego River in the El Monte Valley of Lakeside. The site is approximately 144 acres of restored riparian and tidal wetland with surrounding coastal sagescrub and coastal cactus habitat. The diversity of the property offers a vast number of possible birds including our resident species, summer migrants, and especially cool, the occassional bald eagle! 

The project was completed by the Lakeside Riverpark Conservancy and is operated by a different partner now. The site has a easy walking trail that is mostly paved around the exterior of the pond, with some slight slopes through dirt paths. Parking will be located along El Monte Road to the Southwest and Northeast of the trailhead along the side of the road. Try to park on the West Bound side of the road to avoid crossing traffic.
