30x30 Summit Field Trip to Mission Bay Part 1

Description

ReWild Mission Bay and the Historic Rose Creek Corridor

PART 1: Begin your morning with a walking tour of UC San Diego's Kendall-Frost Marsh with ReWild Mission Bay coalition members and leaders. Learn about why we need to heal our landscape and water, how healthy wetlands and watersheds are the root of the community, and how healthy natural environments lead to healthy human environments. San Diego Bird Alliance, San Diego Coastkeeper, Renascence, American Academy of Pediatrics San Diego and Imperial Counties, ECO San Diego, and Sierra Club San Diego will all share their vision and hopes for a thriving coastal wetland in Mission Bay.

Topics will span from endangered species habitat, reconnecting Kumeyaay communities, human health benefits, and research, to the state and regional policy that supports projects like this one.

A lunch break will take place between 12 and 1 PM if you plan on continuing to Part 2 of this field trip offering.

De Anza picnic area or UC San Diego's Kendall-Frost Marsh field station.

PART 2: Then in the afternoon, hop on a van and explore the lower Rose Creek corridor to learn about the challenges and opportunities for maintaining this vital wildlife passageway from the wetlands in Mission Bay to the Cuyamaca Mountains and Anza Borrego State Park. Space in the van is limited to 14 participants and requires a separate registration. Register for Part 2 here: https://secure.sandiegobirdalliance.org/np/clients/sandiegobirdalliance/event.jsp?forwardedFromSecureDomain=1&event=15133

The van will stop along a few key points from the salt marsh in Pacific Beach to the preserved habitat of Marian Bear Natural Park to experience all the faces of lower Rose Creek. Each stop will be around 30 minutes to get out and explore while learning the history of an important Kumeyaay cultural area. This immersive field experience will give you firsthand insight into the interconnected nature of San Diego's coastal ecosystem and the collaborative efforts working to restore and protect it for future generations.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Bring weather appropriate attire and water. The event will continue with drizzle means but may be canceled if we received heavy unexpected rain. Please check for updates in case of severe weather conditions.
