Summary
Description
Famosa Slough is a unique wetlands habitat in the middle of an urban area. This habitat sees many challenges and yet it supports over 30 species of birds this time of year, from Shorebirds and Passerine species to Raptors and Waterfowl.
Join us Thursday, December 4, from 9:00 am – 11:30 am at Famosa Slough (meet us 4285 W. Pt. Loma Blvd. SD 92107) to witness the King Tides! The highest tides of the year, and see what our future shoreline could look like!
The tide peaks at 7.33 ft at 7:39 AM, in the San Diego River, but because of the Slough’s unique hydrology, it will be highest about three hours later, ~10:30am
Explore educational booths, enjoy amazing birdwatching, and learn about ongoing surveys of the Light-footed Ridgway’s Rail and Belding’s Savannah Sparrow. Help us document the tides and discover how sea level rise impacts our wetlands.
Parking is free along West Point Loma Blvd and in nearby neighborhoods. You can also park in the dirt lot at the corner of Valeta St. and Famosa Blvd and walk over.
Bring your camera, binoculars, and curiosity, this is a morning you won’t want to miss!
