Summary
Description
April 24th through April 27th is the City Nature Challenge where people across the county will be documenting all the biodiversity found in the land, sea, and skies of San Diego!
What is a BioBlitz? National Geographic defines a BioBlitz as “an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.” Many BioBlitz events will be taking place in April and May – check out the rest of the event calendar to see more locations!
During Anstine Nature Preserve’s open hours this Saturday from 9am to 4pm we encourage you to bring your phone, camera, and curiosity to help us document all the diversity found in this 11.6-acre preserve using the iNaturalist app or website. It’s as simple as snapping a photo or two of a bird, plant, bug, and more and uploading it to iNaturalist where other people can help identify what species it is and also support citizen science data.
Preserve staff can help you with your iNaturalist and ID questions, and will also have some microscopes and binoculars available if you want a closer look at some of our subjects. It is recommended as always to stay on trail and use caution when interacting with plants you are unfamiliar with as some may cause skin irritation or other reactions.
Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. We always recommend sun protection, closed-toe shoes, and water when exploring the trails at Anstine Nature Preserve.
