Summary
Description
In partnership with San Diego Coastkeeper, we will participate in an Earth Day cholla planting and restoration event at Otay Valley Regional Park.
We will be removing invasive species and assisting in a cholla planting to provide habitat for the cactus wren. In addition to the Earth Day planting, we will get a closer look at the species that reside in Otay Valley Regional Park by participating in a Border BioBlitz and the City Nature Challenge.
Come prepared with your phone and the free iNaturalist app!
🌱 What is a BioBlitz? National Geographic defines a BioBlitz as “an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.” Many BioBlitz events will be taking place in April and May – check out the rest of the event calendar to see more locations!
🌱 What is a City Nature Challenge? The 2026 City Nature Challenge is a 4-day, worldwide collaboration to get people observing the natural world through photography, The Nat, the SDSU Biodiversity Museum, and the UC San Diego Natural Reserve System are coordinating San Diego’s annual participation using the free iNaturalist app.
Meet point:
We will meet at the entrance to Otay Valley Regional Park on the 2600 block of Palm Ave, across from Desty St. The entrance is a shared road with Terra Bella Nursery. Follow the road straight down the hill, all the way to the end where you will see signs to park in a dirt field.
