2026 Black Birders Week Virtual Social: A Migration Pause
Now in its sixth year, Black Birders Week 2026, organized by Black AF in STEM, centers the theme "Flyways & Freedom: Advocacy, Action, and the Future" — turning our gaze to the horizon and the pathways that connect us all. Black Birders Week is an annual celebration highlighting the intersection of birds, people, and environmental justice, uplifting Black birders, naturalists, scientists, and outdoor enthusiasts, and advocating for the inclusion, safety, and visibility of Black people in birding and outdoor spaces.
This program is organized and led by BlackAF in STEM. San Diego Bird Alliance is sharing this event as a community resource to amplify Black-led programming during Black Birders Week.
This program is presented by Nicole Jackson and Jen Reid.
Just as migratory birds rely on safe places to rest along their journeys, we too need moments of refuge and renewal. This virtual gathering is for Black birders and centers on mental health, community care, and the power of pausing as rest is not a luxury; it's survival.
