Summary
Description
Wednesday July 8, 3-4:30 PM
Join naturalist Sophia Perez, a Biology Master’s student specializing in reptiles and amphibians, for a guided introduction to the reptiles of San Diego County. Learn how to identify local species, search for them responsibly in the field, and discover the important roles they play in our ecosystems. Along the way, we’ll discuss the connections between reptiles, birds, and the habitats they share, revealing how both groups can help us better understand and protect the natural landscapes of Southern California.
Whether you’re a dedicated birder, an aspiring herper, or simply curious about local wildlife, this walk offers a chance to see San Diego’s natural world from a new perspective.
Location Information
To protect the habitat health of the animals, detailed location and meeting information will be provided only to those registered by July 5, and we ask that you please do not share it!
This walk is on a packed dirt trail - the surface may be steep, uneven, or rocky in several areas. The total round trip is about 2 miles. The trail is in full sun (herp habitat!) so be prepared with sunscreen and proper clothing. There are no benches or seating along the trail.
Residential street parking only, so carpools are encouraged. There are no bathrooms and no water fountains - bring water and “Go before you Go.”
Since this location is not easily accessible by transit, a carpool will be made available by SDBA. Contact weichler@sandiegobirdalliance.org for information.
