Birding Outing: Lakeside's River Park
7/11/2026 8 am to 10:30 am
Second Saturday of Every Month!
Join us at Lakeside's River Park as we explore San Diego and meet other likeminded birders and hikers along the way! Meet in the field station for a quick slideshow of river park plants and animals, and then head out to the trail for a guided walk through the riparian trail. The Trail will be a relaxed, easy walk with lots of opportunity for unique wildlife viewing. Restrooms and water are available at the field station.
Lakeside's River Park Conservancy was established in 2001 to restore 100 acres of depleted sand mine on the San Diego River. Over two decades later, we offer critical riparian habitat for wildlife and important ecosystem services to the surrounding community. River Park wetlands provide flood protection, improve water quality, and provide the conditions for life for native species.

The route from the field station includes an uneven packed dirt and rock pathway that crosses the river bed before connecting up to the flat, crushed stone walkway. There is a moderate slope at each end of the river bed. Total trip length is about a mile. About half of the path is shaded.
Between the river and the golf course, the area is relatively quiet, isolated from most traffic noises. The path is popular with bikers, walkers, and dogs. The field station and river crossing are privately owned and protected by the Conservancy.
