25453 Lake Wohlford Road
Escondido, CA 92025
The last part of the road is very curvy as you come up the hill from Escondido, so drive slow please. Some people like to use it as a race track, please don’t feel pressured by the locals ;). Also it is easy to miss the entrance when you are coming up the hill from Escondido, no worries, if you see the Lake Wohlford Café just make a U-turn and come back. Once you drive through the gate there are a few spaces straight ahead, or if all taken, just make a right turn and go back to the big lot.
Accessibility notes: this is a great location for stationary birding. Bring your favorite camp chair. The group will probably wander around a bit but you can enjoy the experience from one spot if you wish. There is an accessible deck (accessed by a gently sloping ramp) and a rail that is great for placing items like phone and binoculars without blocking the view for wheelchair users. The road to the lake is steep and curvy and may be troublesome for people who experience motion sickness. There are 6 accessible van parking spots. The restrooms are outhouse style and ADA equipped. Handicap stalls have rails. There is a footpump station for handwashing. There are no special ammenities for vision-impaired visitors.
