Help the California Least Tern!
Join San Diego Audubon and USFWS Biologist Sandy Vissman as we restore nesting habitat for the California Least Tern, a federally endangered migratory seabird, at FAA Island. FAA Island is an off-limits island next to Fiesta Island is one of the most important California Least Tern nesting sites in Mission Bay! We haven't been able to get out to this nesting site very much in the last year so this event will be crucial to the success of the Least Terns in the area. This will be the LAST opportunity to help with these efforts before nesting season begins on April 15th.
How do you get there? No worries, we'll boat you over from the Ski Beach Boat Ramp located near 1600 Vacation Rd, San Diego, CA 92109. The boat ramp is located at 32.773700, -117.233061.
We will be removing invasive weeds to make room for these ground nesting endangered seabirds.
All supplies will be provided including tools, gloves, water and snacks, but come prepared in closed-toed shoes and bring a reusable water bottle and hat.
Detailed directions will be emailed once registration closes.
