The San Diego River Estuary adjacent to Robb Field is one of the most productive and rewarding birding sites in our region. The salt marsh mudflats, sand islands, and wetlands, always changing
with the fluctuating tides, provide rest spots and foraging areas for a wealth of bird species. We will focus on early shorebird migrants and year-round residents. If time permits, we will travel
to Sea World Dr. to see what may be further upstream. Restrooms are available at the trailhead at Robb Field. Meet on the levee opposite the tennis courts. Capped at 15 participants.
Directions: From the western terminus of I-8 at the stoplight, turn left, keeping to the rightmost lane to Sunset Cliffs Blvd., and curving to the right along the open grassy fields. Continue to W.
Pt. Loma Blvd. at the stoplight, turn right, and continue to the roundabout at Bacon St. Take the first right, and continue to the parking lot, opposite the tennis courts. Meet up on the levee
pathway. Watch out for passing cyclists.
