Summary

Author Arjan Dwarshuis will talk about his book, The (Big) Year that Flew By: Twelve months, Six Continents and the Ultimate Birding Record.

Description

Arjan Dwarshuis, a professional bird guide, writer, and motivational speaker, holds the current Guinness World Record for observing the largest number of bird species in a single year. In 2016, he launched his global "Big Year;" and ultimately observed 6852 of the world’s roughly 10,900 bird species, setting a record that stands to this day. His yearlong adventure raised nearly 50,000 euros for the BirdLife Preventing Extinctions Programme. He is the ambassador for the IUCN NL Land Acquisition Fund and is committed to the protection of endangered birds across the globe. On May 4th last year, his book about this adventure was finally published in English.

We've scheduled Arjan to talk at Tecolote Nature Center, but it is a small venue and it filled up really quickly! But you can join us via Zoom! Here is the link

In his talk in San Diego, he will take you on a whirlwind adventure through 40 countries. He will talk about the highs and lows of 366 days of birding and nonstop travel, but he will also look back at his childhood and how it was to grow up as an obsessive young birdwatcher.

Doors open at 6:00 pm
Program at 6:30 pm

Books will be available for purchase at the event for $16 each.
